Saving Paws Director and Volunteers Meet Nathan Winogard!

Nicole, Donna, Nathan, Emily and Michelle

Nathan Winogard, attorney, former shelter director, and author of the book Redemption: the Myth of Pet Overpopulation and the No Kill Revolution in America (available on amazon.com), came to Madison, Wisconsin, on October 4th, 2007, and put on a seminar about achieving a no-kill nation: a nation that no longer kills homeless pets.

It IS possible. It's been PROVEN: in the last decade, both urban and rural, northern and southern, have significantly decreased their death rate and increased their adoption rate.

The key to this? Proactive changes including:

- high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter programs

- feral cat TNR programs

- shelters that work with rescue groups

- foster care programs

- adoption programs that include night and weekend hours and off-site adoption centers

- medical and behavior rehabilitation programs

- pet retention education

- compassionate shelter directors and staff

- ongoing marketing and PR to encourage community involvement

- Volunteers would be a huge part of this!

There is so much we can do and much more to learn. For more about the No-Kill Equation, please visit the No-Kill Advocacy Center online at www.nokilladvocacycenter.org.

The killing of homeless pets will end in this country. Never doubt that we will succeed.

"The power to change the status quo is in our hands."
