Max, Our Mascot

We are excited to share Max’s story with you! Max is a very special kitty who is dear to all our hearts here at Saving Paws. If his beautiful, one-of-a-kind face with those big blue eyes doesn’t win you over, his personality certainly will. Max has been with us since the beginning, and we regard him as our mascot.

Recently, Max was diagnosed with renal failure. We were so sad to hear this. Luckily, the kind people at Fox Valley Cat Clinic heard of this, and decided to adopt Max as their office kitty. Max is now pampered as ever by the staff and patrons of this clinic in Menasha. He is also very well cared for every day, and the employees are able to keep a close eye on his condition, which is important with his state of health.

8/23/07: We have an update from the Fox Valley Cat Clinic on Max!

“Max is fitting right into the clinic. Our clients love him and I think he likes it here. He

does not jump onto anything, walks around looking for someone to pet him and is taking his medications well.  He’s eating a ton of renal food...he LOVES it!”

Why Max is so Special to Us

Max has a special place in all our hearts because of his story. Max is an older cat who has lived at Saving Paws Animal Rescue since we started. He came to Michelle, the director, a couple years ago because he was spraying in his house and his owners no longer wanted him.

Michelle took him in and Max has never sprayed since he was at the shelter. However, since he had a history of spraying, he was a permanent resident of the shelter.

Max is our shelter's mascot and "house mama." He plays a significant role for our organization. Not only is the "face" of Saving Paws (you can see his beautiful snowshoe mug on the top left of our home page), he is also the heart. That is, from a kitty perspective.

Max comforted all the new arrivals when they came in. He has some kind of gift that tells the new kitties, "you're okay, you're safe here." We often found him snuggling up to a new arrival, side by side, and it is almost always the shyest kitties that he took under his wing. He groomed them, played with them, and slept next to them.

He made the transition from streets or home to our shelter so much better for countless kitties. He is a true treasure to us and a true friend to homeless kitties in Northeast Wisconsin.

One of our volunteers nominated Max for “Cat of the Year” to the ASPCA. Any way you look at it, Max is definitely our little feline hero.

Update 12/31/07: We have a funny new picture of Max from the Fox Valley Cat Clinic!

Sweet Max! Look at him comforting these poor little lost beanie baby kittens!
